“Forklift Experience” Isn’t the Same as Certified
Plenty of workers list forklift experience on an application without holding an actual, current certification. Forklift certified staffing means verifying that credential before a worker touches your equipment — not taking their word for it and finding out otherwise after an incident.
Why This Matters More Than It Seems
OSHA requires forklift operators to be certified on the specific type of equipment they’re operating, and an uncertified operator running your equipment creates real liability exposure if something goes wrong — for your business, not just the worker.
What to Ask a Staffing Partner
How Is Certification Verified?
Ask specifically how a staffing agency confirms certification — is it a document check, a skills demonstration, or just a box checked on an application?
Is Training Provided if Needed?
Some staffing partners can provide or arrange forklift certification training for workers who need it, which can widen your pool of available candidates without lowering your standards.
What Equipment Types Are Covered?
Certification on a sit-down counterbalance forklift doesn’t automatically cover a reach truck or order picker — confirm the certification matches your actual equipment.
What STAFFORCE Verifies
- Current forklift certification matched to your equipment type
- General warehouse safety training
- Physical capability for the specific role
- Background checks and drug screening before placement
What This Means for Your Insurance and Liability
Beyond the immediate safety concern, an uncertified operator involved in an incident can complicate insurance claims and create liability that falls back on your business, not just the staffing agency. Verifying certification before placement isn’t just a hiring best practice — it’s protection for your company. A staffing partner who takes this seriously will be upfront about how they verify credentials rather than treating it as a formality.
